The "Wharf Rats" was the nickname of a close-knit group of teenage boys who gathered outside the Bay City Drug Store in the 1940s. The group shows how young ltalians in the colony managed to forge ltalian traditions (gathering in a public space to enforce shared community) with American culture (joining the teenage fad of gathering at the local soda fountain).
